The scientific symposium of the Agricultural Engineers Union and the participation of the International Date Council

The International Date Council participated in the virtual scientific symposium organized by the General Secretariat of the Arab Agricultural Engineers Union as part of the sixth program for exchanging and integrating Arab expertise to address crises and challenges facing Arab agriculture and the measures adopted in Arab countries to mitigate their effects. This event took place on Saturday, January 13, 2024.  The symposium featured a lecture by His Excellency Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatana, Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Syria. The symposium included extensive discussions.

During the International Date Council's contribution, its expert Professor Hossam Metwali emphasized the importance of focusing efforts and attention on strategic crops without neglecting other sectors, including the date palm and dates sector. He stressed the need to pay attention to this sector and rehabilitate date palm centers in Syria, maintaining the country's valuable assets in this important sector. The Minister confirmed that his ministry supports these policies.

The discussion focused on developing the date sector through digitization to provide necessary data and proposing the establishment of an international date exchange market (International Date Exchange). They initially agreed on arranging an implementation mechanism, starting with holding a workshop to discuss work priorities for this initiative
