HRH Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Discusses Algeria’s Accession to the International Dates Council with the Algerian Ambassador

HRH Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Executive Director of the International Dates Council (IDC), continued her efforts to expand the Council’s international outreach by meeting with H.E. Mr. Cherif Oualid, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the Algerian Embassy in Riyadh.

The meeting focused on discussing Algeria’s potential accession to membership in the International Dates Council. The significance of this meeting stems from Algeria’s prominent position as one of the world’s leading date-producing countries. According to the latest classification of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Algeria ranks as the third-largest producer of dates globally, with an annual production of approximately 1.3 million metric tons.

Algeria is home to more than 20 million date palms and boasts over 1,000 varieties of dates, highlighting its strategic importance within the global dates sector. The discussions underscored the value of Algeria’s participation in the Council and its potential contribution to advancing international cooperation and the sustainable development of the date palm and dates industry.
