The international workshop titled “Global Marketing and Promotion of Dates: Best Practices and Success Models” began today in the Tunisian capital, bringing together experts and professionals from date-producing and consuming countries to explore ways to develop the global marketing and promotion of dates and identify new markets.
The International Dates Council is organizing the two-day workshop in cooperation with Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and the Dates Interprofessional Grouping.
Executive Director of the International Dates Council Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz underscored the importance of Tunisia hosting the event, given its extensive experience in date production and exports, as well as its strong presence in European markets. She noted that international market requirements are evolving rapidly, making product safety, traceability, and compliance with standards important factors in reaching consumers and enhancing the competitiveness of dates in high-value markets.
She explained that the workshop brings together a diverse group of public- and private-sector representatives to exchange successful experiences, showcase best practices, and explore broader opportunities for trade cooperation and access to new global markets. It also addresses opportunities to create value for the product, beginning with an understanding of market and consumer requirements. She emphasized that marketing is part of an integrated system encompassing quality, brand identity, and distribution channels.
As part of the work of the International Dates Council’s Marketing and Promotion Committee, the first day of the workshop addressed several topics related to developing date marketing and promotion strategies, supporting producers’ competitiveness, and improving access to foreign markets. It also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and expertise among participating countries and showcase successful models in date production, marketing, and value addition.
Participants emphasized the importance of continued joint efforts to understand global market trends and develop products that meet consumer needs, while building a sustainable commercial presence for dates that enhances their economic value and opens broader prospects in global markets.
